Are you interested in policing but unable to commit to a full-time role? Have you ever considered becoming a special constable?Special constables are dedicated volunteers who play a crucial role on the front line, making arrests, fighting crime, and protecting the public. By giving their time and skills, they support our police force and help make our county safer. Specials have the same powers as regular police officers, wear the same uniform, carry the same equipment, and attend the same incidents and operations. However, being a special offers flexibility, allowing you to sign up for shifts based on your availability and balance your volunteering with other important aspects of your life. The role can be demanding, requiring quick-thinking, resilience, and adaptability in various situations. But there's a great sense of pride and accomplishment in knowing you're helping people and making a difference. If you’re interested in becoming a special or would like to learn more about the role, we are hosting a series of in-person events and online webinars to provide valuable insights. The first in-person event will take place next Saturday (5 April), at Bedfordshire Police Headquarters in Kempston. Starting at 9.30am, attendees will learn about the role, training, and the opportunities available, including specialist units you can join once you're qualified. We will also cover the application process in detail, from the online assessment to the interview and pre-employment checks. Current specials will be available to share their experiences and answer your questions. There will also be an opportunity to practice the fitness test if you wish. Register for the event online to secure your spot For more information on special constables or future event dates, visit our website at beds.police.uk/specials, or email specialsupport@beds.police.uk if you have any questions. Please forward this email to anyone you think may be interested. We hope to see you there! | ||||
